Location: Aurora, ONE-mail: erlinda_george@hotmail.com Occupation: retired Height: 171 cm Weight: 62 kg Birthplace: Croatia Started running in: 1977 Shoes I run in: Shoes I run in: New Balance 766 Favourite running surface: It's all good. Some events I have completed: San Diego 24, Sulphur Springs 100 miles. PBs: Marathon - 2:52, 48 hrs - 265 km, 24 hrs - 195 km Best Performances: Badwater 135 miles - 9th, Ultracentric 48 hrs. - 2nd, Ottawa 24 hrs - 4th, OUS 2006 - 1st in 50+ Ultra achievement I am most proud of: World 24 hr Challenge '07 Drummondville QC. Excellent team execution by crew (Erlinda Biondic) and runner (me) with only 4 minutes down time. Events I would like to do: Western States. Typical training week: 2 long runs. 6 short runs. Injury history: L and R torn meniscus. Achilles and tibialis tedinitis, etc. Favourite event foods: Rice cakes. Favourite event beverages: Perpeteum. Things I like most about ultras: Pushing my body to the extreme and beyond in partnership with my crew. Performing magic when it looks hopeless. Things I hate most about trail running: Injuries and getting lost. What got me started doing ultra runs: After 25 years of running, the doctor told me to give up doing marathons ("too hard on body", he said). So I switched from an over the hill average runner to a contender. Running heroes: Jerome Drayton (marathon), Marshall Ulrich (ultra marathons). Running quotes: "Success isn't a destination. It's a journey." Running strengths: Tenacity, attention to details, my crew (Erlinda, my wife). Personal weakness: Poor memory Running philosophy: Better to come in last with dignity than first as a jerk. Greatest adventure with someone: High altitude hiking along remote John Muir Trail in California with Erlinda: 216 miles, 43,600 ft. elevation gain carrying heavy packs. Greatest adventure solo: Cycling 2,800 km. from Newmarket to Daytona Beach, Florida in 24 days (after only 1 month training). Favourite vacation destination: National Parks of the U.S. Southwest especially Grand Canyon. Most memorable ultra moment: So many, but this one really stands out. We had been pushing the race for 134 miles at Badwater '04. Decided to slow down, walk with my loyal crew the last mile to fully appreciate the smell of pine forest, sound of the whispering wind and the million stars in the night sky. Want to be remembered as: A nice guy who ran with silent but intense passion. Sep 2007 |
