OUSer Bio:
Steve Freeman

at Niagara 50k, 2003Location: Brantford, Ontario
E-mail: stevesfree@hotmail.com
Occupation:
which one?
Height: 5'-6"
Weight: 145
Birthplace: Hamilton, Ontario
Date of birth: 10/08/1962
Years running: lots
Years running ultras: rookie
PRs: 50km took me the best part of 6 hours, marathon best is 3:20
Shoes I run in: the most comfortable I can find, right now New Balance and Brooks are keeping my feet happy!
Favourite running surface: Like them all ... well for the first 40kms at least
Some ultras I have completed: 2001 Niagara
Best performance: 18:30 5k
Ultra achievement I am most proud of: The fact that I survived my first 50km race on such little training is nothing short of a miracle. The fact that I had never even run as far as a marathon previous to this attempt is a testament to one of my personality flaws!
Ultras I would like to do but haven't yet:
2004 Death Race in Grande Cache, Alberta
Typical training week: Lots of long runs wedged between working 3 part time jobs and pretending to have a social life.
Injury history: So far just a sprained ankle which is amazing if you consider my dancing skills!
Favourite ultra foods: Yucky gels, raisins and junk food
Favourite ultra beverages: Water and PowerAid
Things I like most about ultras: The friendly atmosphere! It seems like everyone is out to help the other guy! The goal is to finish even if only on one leg!
Things I hate about ultras: The recovery time ... the body needs a break but the mind wants to run!
What got me started doing ultras: I started running with my father when I was about 12 years old. While I couldn't keep up to him it was the beginning of an obsessive but healthy lifestyle. Thanks DAD!
Ultra heroes: Everyone who has the courage to strap on the shoes and push past what some people would consider the outer limits of human capabilities!
