I've run 138 Ultras and 36 Marathons. Averaged 6000 miles/year for the last 8 years. Some ultras I have completed: Western States-1995 & 1998, New York 7 day - 452 miles, 10 day - 640 miles, 100 km World Challenge - Japan and Belgium, Haliburton 100 miles, JFK 50 miler twice, Erie 12 hr 3 times, Buffalo 6 hr 3 times. Won Ontario Ultra series 7 times in last 9 years. Best Performances: all finishes are worth a best performance mention. Ultra Achievement: Double Crossing of Grand Canyon 3 days after Vegas Marathon. Ottawa 24 hour 1992 - 136 miles. Typical training week: 140 miles - Mon, Tues 13 miles trails, Wed double 13 milers, Thurs, Fri 13 miles, Sat 14+ miles, Sun 20 - 33 miles. Injury history: ha ha ha...... knee injuries, plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, back pain, shin splints, stress fractures. Loss of memory (from Doug Barber's beer). Favourite ultra foods: Chocolate chip cookies, bananas, cheese, chicken from Pat's pocket, Hamburgers.... Ponderosa all-you-can-eat smorgasbords ....anything really. Favourite ultra beverages: ha ha ha....COKE! Things I like most about ultras: People, scenic trails, getting lost, running girls I can't keep up with, the sun coming up several times in the same race. Things I hate most about ultras: Coming home, getting cold in a long race, girls mad at me, old age. What got me started on ultras: Too slow for shorter races.
