(2004) Best performances: New York marathon 2002, 4 months after the birth of my daughter, while nursing. Wiarton shore to shore 8.1 mile in 1991 49:48. Boston Marathon 2003 3:27:52 Running achievements: Trail Series Winner 2004. Winning Iroquoia Trail Race after going off course for over 7 minutes. Had to work very hard to regain my position! Events I would like to do but haven't yet: Typical training week: Run four times per week for one hour or less. Once per week for two hours. No speedwork, no hill repeats. Injury history: Plantar Fascitis about 15 years ago (too much speedwork) Favourite race foods: None during a 25km. Power gel at 18 miles during a marathon. Favourite race beverages: Water during a 25km. Water alternating with gatorade during a marathon starting at the first aid station. Things I like most about trail events: Getting back to nature both physically and spiritually-listening to the sounds of the forest, seeing the beauty of it all. Things I hate most running: Technology-ie. GPS watches! Running is for the mind/body connection and the joy of simplicity. Fear-of being hurt or abducted when running alone in the woods (I watch too much cold case files on A&E) What got me started doing trails: cross country in high school. Running heroes: Terry Fox's ability to run a marathon a day with one leg and cancer. My grandpa and my dad, who both had/have a talent and an inspiring aura about them, but tough acts to follow. Greta Waitz-an amazing female athlete. Puts back into running what she got out of it. Running quote: Running is the greatest metaphor for life because you get out of it what you put into it. Oprah Winfrey (really!) May 2007 |
