Ultra achievements: Doing my first ultra in 96 at Haliburton 50k= 4:36.
Ultra I would like to do but haven't yet: Leadville 100M
Typical training week: I average 75 k per week year round mixed with liberal amounts of swimming and cycling. I will reduce these as an ultra approaches and increase mileage in the last 4 to 6 weeks to 100 to 120 k/week. This usually includes back to back long runs on the weekend and a mid week 10m with one track session per week.
Injury history: Compartment syndrome in 1980 and 81, otherwise only the occasional blister or sore muscle.
Favourite ultra foods: meat, peanut butter/jam sandwiches, potatoes, fig newtons
Favourite ultra beverages: coca-cola, electrolyte replacement and water at every aid station
Things I like most about ultras: the quiet
Things I hate most about ultras: Watching Les Michalak pull away from me at the halfway mark.
What got me started doing ultras: The ultra crowd in the Burlington runners club told me anybody could do an ultra.
Ultra heroes: Monica Scholz and Les Michalak
Ultra Quote: First there is a long hill, followed by an extremely long hill. (Don Kardong, Runners World)
