Running...duh...is there such a thing? Ultra Achievements: » Ha....finishing the Toronto 50k on the run, hand in hand with Boris, my 10 year old running mate from my running club. » 7400km by bike across Canada in 55 days of riding (still one hell of an ultra, even if it was by bike) Muskoka Duathlon: 3km run, 55km cycle, 15km run Typical training week: weight training 4 days, cycling 150-250 km, running 30-50 km Injury history: general aches from being an ol' dog...no injuries other than the ignominy of aging Favourite ultra foods: salt and magnesium (kills muscle cramps), Leslie's mom's cookies, pretzels Favourite ultra beverages: water Things I like most about ultras: watching the facial expressions of co-sufferers metamorphose over time from happy and high to determined and anguished to downright spaced out and sick and ultimately back to happy and high at the end Things I hate most about ultras: stiffening up; eating salt and tasting it until the next aid station; leaving my car light's on and having a dead battery to contend with before I can go home to soak What got me started on ultras: John Remington said I could get another story for my column in Roadrunner Magazine out of it and rekindle my love of distance running at the same time. Don't tell him I said so, but he was right on both counts. Ultras I would like to do: Are there more out there? Choose one for me! Ultra Heroes: Henri, Odino, Gary, Tanya, Michael, Judy, Carl...everyone on the path with me that day: Wow! Amazing people! Ultra Quotation: You need some salt. Just grab a fistful and swallow it.
