PBs:
Marathon - Montreal 4:12, 50km 5:40, 50 mile 12hrs+
Best performance: First 50km in Haliburton in 5:40. I actually felt pretty good.
Ultra achievement most proud of: Completing my first 50 miler.
Ultras I would like to do but haven't yet: Try a 24hr event and eventually a 100 miler.
Typical training week:
Varies with the season. Usually one long run per week, a tempo run and some hill training.
Injury history: Stress fracture in 1998 at National Capital Marathon in Ottawa.
Favourite ultra foods: Bananas, chips, Powergels, oranges.
Favourite ultra beverages:
XLR8, water and COKE!
Things I like most about ultras:
The people and exploring new trails. Curiosity about what's around the corner.. guess I'm a running tourist. I also get satisfaction from doing something that not many people even think of doing.
Things I hate most about ultras:
Nausea.. had it at both Ganaraska and Haliburton in 1999. Never get it in training!! Why in the races?
What got me started doing ultras:
After my first marathon, I was on the Internet newsgroup rec.running and read a posting about ultrarunning. Got on the ultra list based in the US and found out about the OUS from there. Sounded like a fun thing to do.
Ultra hero:
The regular participants in the OUS events.
Favourite Ultra Quote:
"After this 50 miler, I quit running, canceling my subscription to Ultra Running and getting off all the lists.- me talking to myself around the 33 mile mark of the Haliburton 50 mile run in September 99. My mood was not good at that point in time. Thanks to a pepto bimsol and coke my mood changed for the better after going through the 35 mile aid station.
