OUSer Bio:
Margaret Li

Location:  Calgary
E-mail:  margon18bike@yahoo.com
Shoes I run in:  Brooks Glycerin
Favourite running surface:  Packed dirt or pine needles
Some ultras I have completed:  Most of OUS
Best performances:  Douglas Fir in the dark... Thanks, John, for leading
Ultra achievements:  Training on Reservoir Road in Hong Kong, for King of The Hills - Lantau Mountain; the downhills in that race probably took 10 years off the life of my knees
Ultra I would like to do but haven't yet:  Most of Alberta Ultra Series
Things I like most about ultras:  The relaxed atmosphere; having an excuse to visit new places
What got me started doing ultras:   UWO triathlon club runs through Elsie Perrin, Medway, Kings and Kilally.  Also Larry Gooder.
Ultra heroes:  Bert Verhagen, UWO Mech Eng Lab Tech and Runner's World Cover Model whose office walls are plastered with marathon posters, medals and photos from the 80s - a veritable tribute to OUS running a la old school
Running quote: "Every passion has its destiny" --Billy Mills
Most memorable moments with OUS:
* Finishing Niagara '04 with Jim Mullenix
* Running with Diane as part of her grad studies
* Ryne calling out "Ciao" over his shoulder as he lapped me at Ganaraska
* Oh yeah, and being lapped by Laurie at Toronto
* The 6-hr drive home from Ottawa with John and Justin sleeping in the back
* Meeting Larry for the first time and recalling the expression on his face when I called him "Mr. Gooder"
* Cursing Howard and those Seaton steam crossings!
* Being inspired by Jennifer-Anne's incredible runs
* Feeling so grateful for Sharon and Vince's encouragement at the Sulphur Springs aid stations
* Waking up at 3AM Saturday mornings
* Eating all of Tomas' post-race gummy candies on the rides home and marvelling at his mountaineering feats
* Being inspired anew at every race...
Thanks for the fun times - so many hours! - in the trails. I miss you all very much.
