Date of birth:  November 11, 1920
Years running: Since July 21, 1968
Years running ultras: My first ultra was an attempt at the JFK March 31, 1974.  It was a cold rainy spring day with mud everywhere and over 1700 runners. My son and I were in the back and the course was a sea of mud by the time 1600 runners ahead of us chewed it up.  We made it to Snyders landing,
34+ miles in 10 44 and quit. The next year I returned on November 15, 1975 and did the 50+ in 13 34.
PRs: Marathon 3:50:40, 50 miles 8:59
Shoes I run in: any on sale

Ultra achievements: broke 9 hours at Hannibal 50 mile, completing Panama in under 12 hours with Wally Herman
Typical training week: 30 miles
Injury history: plantar fascietis, groin pulls

Things I like most about ultras: the challenge
Things I hate most about ultras: the distance
Ultra heroes: Wally Herman, Norm Frank, Ann Trason, Spiros
Favourite ultra quote: My own, "You must show your body who is boss."
Other comments: I have completed a total of 568 marathons and ultras to date. 297 of these were done in my 70s.  The 297 completions is probably a world's record for septuagenarians.
