Height: 5'9" Weight: no idea Birthplace: Napanee, ON Date of birth: March 26, 1966 Started running in: I have been running since I was a kid, but began training year-round in 1982 Shoes I run in: La Sportiva Crosslites and Skylites, Dion Running Snowshoes and a bit of barefoot. Favourite running surface: Pine needle, single track trails mixed in with some mountains. Fortunate to live near Frontenac Park’s 160km of incredible trails. Love the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks too. Some events I have completed: Ultras – Rock and Ice Ultra (3 day), Haliburton 100miler, 50miler & 50km, Stonecat 50 miler, Seaton Trail 52km, Damn Wakely Dam 52km. Trail & Mountain – Escarpment Run 30km (Catskills), Mt Washington Uphill Race, Ganaraska 25km, ITT PBs: 800m – 2:03, 1500m- 4:12, 5km – 15:43, 10km – 33:01, Half Marathon – 1:14:27, Marathon – 2:47:54, BEER Mile – Don’t really remember so well ;) Best Performances: 2008 Haliburton 100miler (first place) Running achievements:
Typical training week: 13 runs totaling up to as much as 20 hours per week including: 1 tempo run, 1 track/speed/hill session, 1 long run (or a back-to-back). Lot’s of snowshoe running/racing in the winter and some dogsled training/racing thrown in for more winter fun! Injury history: Broken ankle, ITBS, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures…pretty much any/all running injuries, Favourite event foods: Gels, Clif Bloks, bananas, cantaloupe. Favourite event beverages: During – Sustained Energy, Gu2O, coke, water. After – Thank Goodness for Guinness! Things I like most about trail events: The trails, wilderness and feeling one with nature. Things I hate most about trail running: Road sections and tapering. What got me started doing ultra runs: Listening to runners at ITT in ’03, hearing their ultra war stories from other races and thinking it sounded like fun.
