Hamilton, Ontario (UW) - Ron Gehl of Kitchener won the Ascension Six Hour Run Saturday in downtown Hamilton - the same day that 100,000 demonstrators swamped the city to protest cutbacks and layoffs by the Ontario government.
The run raised $700 for the Ascension Breakfast Club, a program operated by the Church of the Ascension to feed hungry school children. The route was a 380.02-metre loop around the block by the church. Although the huge crowd of demonstrators gathered only a short distance away, the run went off without any problems.
