Six Races: Apple Blossom 60 Km, Short Hills Eight-Hour Trail Run, Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Run, Bruce Trail Survival Run, Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Run and Slough of Despond 50 Km Road Race. Another successful Ontario Ultra Series wound up on a snowy day in mid-October near Wiarton, site of many late season ultras in Ontario over the past seven years. While the series has become smaller in terms of the number of races over the past three years, the enthusiasm of the participants remains strong. This year, almost 350 runners took part in the series and 25 runners ran at least three of the six races. Ron Gehl won the open men's and over all titles with 942.0 points while Margaret Mason edged out Noor Huda in the last race of the season to take the women's title with 492.2. Gehl won three of the series races and place high in the two others he ran. Mason, however, won her division with simple hard work, never coming close to winning, but always putting in a great performance. While Chuck Frame and Rolly Portelance were second and third in the open men, Paul DeBiasi and Ed Ciesielski, who finished one and two in the men's 50+ category, actually accumulated more points at 796.2 and 712.4 respectively. Third in the men's 50+ category was Hans Maier. Behind Mason and Noor Huda, who was the only woman to win two races, were American runners Nedra Osbourne and Sarah Freeman who were tied at 252.6 points on the basis of 104 mile performances at the Sri Chinmoy 24 Hour Run in Ottawa. The Iron Man/Woman title was split three ways with Ed Alexander, Ed Ciesielski and Jess Heroux each completing all six series races. Five other runners: Paul DeBiasi, Chuck Frame, Ron Gehl, Margaret Mason and Hans Maier, completed five races. OPEN MEN: 1. Ron Gehl 45 Kitchener, Ontario 5 942.0 2.
