Standings at the completion of the eight race series with results from the Ganaraska 50 Mile/50 Km, Sulphur Springs 50 Km Trail Run, Sri Chinmoy Kingston 6 Hour, Niagara 100km/50Mile/50Km, Bruce Trail Survival 33 Km Trail Run, Haliburton 100Mile/50Mile/50Km, Ottawa Sri Chinmoy 24 Hour, and the Slough of Despond 50 Km Road Race. In the Men Under 50, Ron Gehl took his fourth title in five years, completing two 100 milers in the Series (Haliburton and Ottawa) to put him out of reach at the start of the last race. Veteran Sherry McLean took on the Series this year with good result, smashing the women's all-time points record, with the speedy Deanna Lindsay close behind, once again demonstrating that you must do more than win races in the Series, you must also do a lot of races. Jim Moses reclaimed his title from '93 and '94, also doing back to back 100 milers in the Series and living to complain about it. Ed Ciesielski, recovering from major eye surgery in 1995, came back with a vengeance to take second, perhaps only because his vision prevents him from running at night, so he ran the shorter event at Haliburton. And the Women's 50+ division doubled its participation from three to six, as the legendary Barb McLeod blew away the previous high total for this category, followed by last year's under 50 winner Helen Malmberg. Last year's Ironman Award was renamed the Norm Patenaude Award in memory of the legendary runner, race course measurer, race organizer, president of the Ontario Roadrunners Association, etc. who was killed while cycling this past summer. The recipients are listed below. The total number of individual runners at all races was 236, down slightly from 248 in 1995, but slightly ahead of the 233 in 1994. Since there were fewer events this year, all races either held their own, or were up significantly. MEN UNDER 50: Points No Events 1. Ron Gehl 1234 7 2. Scott Turner 1120 7 3. Geoff Sheppard 924 5 4.
